Helping to Make San Marcos the Center of North County San Diego

Experience, Leadership & Vision

My name is Craig Garcia and most people know me from Old California Coffee House & Eatery in Restaurant Row, San Marcos Ca, but for the past several years, I have been running two companies in town. The other being Reliable Contact, a marketing & CRM Software company. Many of you may have seen me out there with my flyers or with my videos promoting other local businesses on Facebook.

We purchased Old Cal Coffee in the summer of 2010 and closed escrow in January 2011 and immediately, I was asked to chair the San Marcos Arts Council, where I lead that organization for 5 years. We raised tens of thousands of dollars and put on many public art projects throughout North County San Diego to promote the arts. We joined the San Marcos Chamber of Commerce in April of 2011 and have been an active member ever since.

I am currently on 2 Board of Directors, North County Health Services and Charity Wings Art & Craft Center. I am on 3 committees: The NCHS CEO Executive Search team, where we have the daunting task of replacing Irma Cota, our existing CEO of 20 years. I am on the Boys & Girls Club Auction Committee, where on April 29th, I will have a small part of helping to raise over $260,000 to help keep the Boys & Girls Club of San Marcos going year after year. Lastly, I am on the San Marcos Chamber of Commerce Membership Committee, where I am helping bring back & grow the chambers membership base!

I am a member of 5 organizations: The Small Business Referral Group, Welcoming Services Professional Network, San Marcos Rotary, The San Marcos Chamber and my favorite, Summit Church. Recently, the Mayor Jim Desmond has appointed me to the San Marcos Creed District Specific Commission, where we will bring a beautiful downtown district to the San Marcos Creek District.

Since late last year, I have been attending the regular city council meetings, the planning commission meetings, the creek district specific meetings as well as a San Marcos Unified School District meeting. I recently attended Mayor Jim Desmond’s State of City Address, Supervisor Bill Horns State of North County Address and the North County Economic Development Annual Conference. I have had individual meetings with Paul Malone, former San Marcos City Manager, Steve Kildoo from the Planning & Creek District & NCHS, Tess Radmill, the San Marcos City’s Economic Development Manager, Rick Rungaitis, the President & CEO of the San Marcos Chamber of Commerce, Mike Sannella from the Vallecitos water district Board, Matt Simmons, Land & Planning Specialist, Randy Walton from the SMUSD Board and Ginger Hitzke, a local developer in town. These meetings have given me the insight into the different departments that make the city run.

Last September, the Vice Mayor Rebecca Jones came to me and asked me if I had considered running for San Marcos City Council and I answered, as a matter of fact, I have considered running for City Council. My experience, involvement in the community, leadership and vision shapes who I am and should give you an idea of what kind of leader I will be…. Informed! My top three priorities will be Traffic, Safety and Job Growth.

With the support of my beautiful Wife of 22 years, Giovanna Garcia and the blessing of my son Dylan, who is 9 years, who both allowed me to make my life public over the next several years, it is with great pleasure that I am officially announcing that I am running for San Marcos City Council in District 1 in 2018!
